This year marks the 30th anniversary of the historic victory of legendary wrestler and Vice President of the Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation Yuri Melnichenko, who won an Olympic gold medal for Kazakhstan at the 1996 Atlanta Games.
To commemorate this milestone, Yerkin Okassov, President of the Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation, presented Yuri Melnichenko with a congratulatory letter from Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Olzhas Bektenov.
In recognition of his outstanding sporting achievements, significant contribution to the development of wrestling in Kazakhstan and dedication to preparing new generations of athletes, Yuri Melnichenko was also presented with a certificate for a car on behalf of the Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation.
Yuri Melnichenko is a legendary wrestler who became an Olympic champion in Greco-Roman wrestling for independent Kazakhstan. He is a two-time world champion, two-time Asian champion, Asian Games gold medallist, Honoured Master of Sport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Honoured Coach and Honoured Figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
His remarkable triumph on the wrestling mat in Atlanta is forever inscribed in the history of Kazakhstani sport and has inspired several generations of wrestlers. Even after retiring from competition, Yuri Melnichenko has remained actively involved in the development of wrestling in Kazakhstan, sharing his extensive knowledge and experience to help shape future champions.
