During the Congress, Head Coach of the Kazakhstan freestyle wrestling team Daniyar Kaysanov spoke about the team’s work in the first half of 2026.
“In the first half of 2026, the freestyle wrestling team took part in 4 international competitions. Overall, our athletes won 20 medals: 4 gold, 6 silver and 10 bronze. The result at the U23 Asian Championships, in particular, showed the strong potential of the youth reserve. This is an important indicator for the upcoming Olympic cycle. The upcoming main competitions are the Asian Games and the World Championships, which will be held in Astana. The team lineup for these events will be finalized based on the results of the ranking tournament in Hungary.
One of the main issues today is the lack of high-level sparring partners in the 86, 92, 97 and 125 kg weight categories. Therefore, we need to increase the number of joint training camps with foreign teams and strengthen the reserve in the heavyweight categories. Our goal is to maintain the level of Kazakhstan freestyle wrestling and achieve strong results at the Asian Games and the World Championships,” said Daniyar Kaysanov.
