At the Congress, Head Coach of the Kazakhstan Greco-Roman wrestling team Konysbek Tukenov spoke about the team’s preparation in the first half of 2026, its results at international competitions and preparations for upcoming major events.

“This year is an important one for the national team. Ahead of us are the Asian Games, the World Championships, world-level competitions in the U23 age category and a number of international tournaments. That is why the most important thing for us is to prepare athletes systematically not for just one competition, but for the entire season. According to the 2026 plan, the national team will hold 13 training camps. 5 of them will take place abroad. In addition, participation in 13 international tournaments is planned. Since the beginning of the year, our wrestlers have gained experience at competitions and training camps in Antalya, Zagreb, Tirana, Bishkek, Ulaanbaatar and other cities.

At international tournaments, our athletes won 3 gold, 2 silver and 11 bronze medals. A total of 16 medals is a reflection of the work being done. But we must not stop there. There are also issues that need to be addressed. In some weight categories, internal competition must be strengthened. We need to increase the number of international-level sparring sessions and improve the tactical stability of our athletes. Recovery, medical support, weight management and sports monitoring must also be carried out systematically.

Our main goal is to achieve strong results at the Asian Games and the World Championships,” said Konysbek Tukenov.
