Shamil Kerimovich Serikov was an Olympic champion, a two-time world champion in Greco-Roman wrestling, and an Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR. He was one of the outstanding wrestlers who raised the international reputation of Kazakhstan’s wrestling school. At the 1980 Moscow Olympic Games, he won the gold medal in the 57 kg weight category. His technique, character, and distinctive wrestling style remain an important part of Kazakhstan’s wrestling heritage.
