The Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation and the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan have signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at developing Olympic wrestling disciplines, supporting elite athletes and improving the national sports reserve development system.
The document was signed by Yerkin Okasov, President of the Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation, and Lieutenant General of Aviation Dauren Kosanov, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The memorandum sets out the main areas of cooperation between the Federation and the Ministry of Defence. These include organizing Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestling training camps, enabling athletes and specialists to participate in international training programmes, exchanging professional experience and expanding international military sports cooperation.
One of the key provisions of the agreement is to enable national team athletes to combine their professional sporting careers with military service. Members of the national team will be able to serve in the Sports Company of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan without interrupting their preparations for international competitions and major sporting events.
Particular attention will be given to developing the sports reserve. Promising young wrestlers who have completed the ninth grade will have an opportunity to study freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling at the Baurzhan Momyshuly Military Sports College. This will allow young athletes to continue their education and regular training, with the prospect of eventually joining the national team.
The memorandum also provides for the development of sports infrastructure. Sports facilities are expected to be equipped with modern wrestling mats and specialized training equipment using non-budgetary funds.
For the Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation, the agreement represents an important step towards ensuring continuity in athlete development, supporting young wrestlers, strengthening the national team’s talent pool and expanding cooperation with military sport.
The bilateral partnership is expected to give further impetus to the development of Olympic wrestling disciplines in Kazakhstan and create additional opportunities for Kazakhstani wrestlers to achieve strong results on the international stage.
