Kazakhstan’s Greco-Roman wrestler Diyar Amanali has won the gold medal at the U17 World Championships.
Competing in the 55 kg weight category at the global tournament in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, the Kazakh wrestler earned four victories on his way to the final.
Diyar opened his campaign with an 8–0 technical superiority victory over Greece’s Nikolaos Zinisis. He then defeated Russia’s Edem Paiziev 3–1. In the quarterfinal, Amanali overcame Georgia’s Giorgi Kedelidze 2–1 before securing an 8–1 victory over Bulgaria’s Danimir Yordanov in the semifinal to advance to the gold-medal bout.
In the final, Diyar Amanali faced Hungary’s Keve Kovacs. The Kazakh wrestler scored the opening point following a successful attack. His opponent levelled the score in the second period, and the bout ended 1–1. Under UWW regulations, Amanali was declared the winner based on the first-point criterion.
With this victory, Diyar Amanali raised the flag of Kazakhstan in Baku and became the U17 world champion.
