Experienced specialist Mairbek Yusupov has taken up the position of assistant head coach of the Kazakhstan national freestyle wrestling team. As part of the preparations for the Asian Games and the World Championships in Astana, he is working with the senior team wrestlers and contributing to the training process.
The expertise of Kazakhstan’s national coaching school will continue to play a central role in the preparation of the national team. Kazakhstan has highly qualified specialists who have devoted many years to the development of freestyle wrestling. In this regard, professional dialogue and consultations with experienced coaches who previously led the national team, including Ruslan Umiraliyev and Altai Tanybayev, will continue.
This year, the Kazakhstan national team will compete at the Asian Games and the World Championships in Astana. Given the limited preparation period, priority was placed on inviting an experienced specialist who is familiar with the national team’s system, working procedures and the capabilities of its athletes.
To complement the work of the coaching staff with international expertise, a decision was made to invite Mairbek Yusupov, who has worked in several countries. He is well acquainted with the internal structure of the Kazakhstan national team and has previously worked with many of its wrestlers. His experience is expected to provide additional momentum to the current coaching staff and strengthen the team’s preparations for the upcoming competitions.
From 2017 to 2021, Mairbek Yusupov served on the coaching staff of the Kazakhstan national freestyle wrestling team. During this period, Kazakhstan’s wrestlers won one Olympic bronze medal, three silver and three bronze medals at the World Championships, one silver and two bronze medals at the 2018 Asian Games, as well as 10 gold, five silver and 12 bronze medals at the Asian Championships.
In his new role, Mairbek Yusupov will work with the senior team wrestlers preparing for the Asian Games and the World Championships, as well as promising athletes being considered as candidates for the next Olympic Games. He will be involved in the training process and in the technical and tactical preparation of the wrestlers.
The immediate focus is on the Asian Games and the World Championships. At the same time, cooperation with Mairbek Yusupov is expected to continue throughout the Olympic cycle. The ultimate goal is to build a competitive team capable of achieving strong results at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
The long-standing work and expertise of Kazakhstan’s coaches remain the foundation of our team. We believe that Mairbek Yusupov’s international experience will complement their efforts and provide the team with additional strength.
