Technical coaching courses for specialists from Afghanistan are currently taking place in Astana. The educational and practical programme covers two Olympic disciplines: wrestling and boxing.
The project is being implemented as part of the global Olympic Solidarity programme of the International Olympic Committee, with the direct support of United World Wrestling (UWW) and World Boxing.
The main objective of the courses is to improve the qualifications of foreign specialists and provide them with modern technical knowledge. The training is aimed at familiarising coaches with current athlete preparation methods, modern approaches to organising the training process, and international requirements.
A total of 20 Afghan specialists have arrived in the capital of Kazakhstan to take part in the programme, including 11 wrestling coaches and nine boxing coaches. The training process includes daily theoretical and practical sessions lasting up to seven hours. The main focus is placed on modern international refereeing standards, current anti-doping regulations, and advanced systems of competition preparation.
Theoretical lectures and seminars are being held at the Astana Olympic Training Center. The practical part is divided between specialised venues: boxing sessions are conducted in the rings of the Astana Olympic Training Center, while wrestling sessions take place at the International Wrestling Academy.
The main lecturer and instructor of the wrestling course is Mohamed Abdelfatah — 2006 world champion, three-time Olympian, and a specialist with extensive experience in managing the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, as well as working in the American NCAA university league.
The educational programme under World Boxing is delivered by leading Kazakhstani specialists and certified experts. Among them are Candidate Master of Sports Shakharman Maksut, as well as Aidos Arapov, Master of Pedagogical Sciences, former member of the Kazakhstan national boxing team, Asian Championships medallist, and World Championships participant.
The course will conclude with an official assessment. Upon completion of the programme and successful examination, all participants will receive international Level 1 coaching certificates recognised by UWW and World Boxing. This certification will allow the specialists to confirm their qualifications in accordance with international requirements and expand their opportunities for further professional development.
