Kazakhstan’s U17 Greco-Roman wrestling team is completing the final stage of its preparation for the World Championships at the Almatau training base in the Turkistan Region.
This is the team’s third and final training camp ahead of the U17 World Championships. Alongside the ten wrestlers selected to represent Kazakhstan in Baku, the second- and third-ranked athletes in each weight category have also joined the camp. A total of 32 wrestlers are taking part in the preparations.
The training programme focuses on the athletes’ physical condition, technical skills and tactical readiness. The coaching staff is assessing each wrestler’s current form, while placing particular emphasis on movement during bouts, the execution of techniques, transitions from defence to attack and decision-making on the mat.
According to Kazakhstan U17 Greco-Roman head coach Askhat Zhanbyrov, the involvement of the second- and third-ranked wrestlers helps strengthen internal competition within the team.
“The ten wrestlers who will compete at the World Championships have already been selected. However, we have also invited the second- and third-ranked athletes in every weight category. This creates stronger competition and encourages the main team members to maintain a high level of preparation. At this stage, we are paying special attention to technical and tactical work, as well as decision-making during bouts,” Zhanbyrov said.
The U17 World Championships will be held from 27 July to 2 August in Baku, Azerbaijan. Wrestlers under the age of 17 will compete in Greco-Roman, freestyle and women’s wrestling.
Kazakhstan will be represented by ten athletes in the Greco-Roman wrestling competition.
