A ceremonial launch of the School Wrestling League project was held at Secondary School No. 140 in Shymkent.
The event was attended by Yerkin Okassov, President of the Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation; Sarsen Kuranbek, Deputy Akim of Shymkent; Yermek Darmenov, Deputy Head of the city’s Department of Physical Culture and Sports; as well as representatives of educational institutions, coaches and young athletes.
Addressing the participants, Yerkin Okassov highlighted the project’s importance in developing school sports and encouraging the younger generation to lead a healthy lifestyle.
The project aims to promote mass participation in sport among schoolchildren, make wrestling more accessible and create favourable conditions for developing young athletes. As part of the initiative, sports halls at educational institutions will be equipped with specialised wrestling facilities. This will enable students to train regularly and help create a supportive environment for wrestling activities in schools.
During the ceremony, the Federation President presented the administration of Secondary School No. 140 with a certificate for a permanent wrestling mat. The new equipment will provide students with safe and regular training conditions and support the systematic development of the school’s wrestling programme.
Yerkin Okassov wished the young wrestlers every success and emphasised that their first training sessions at school could become an important step towards a future in elite sport.
The Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation will continue to provide systematic support for initiatives aimed at developing youth wrestling, strengthening sports infrastructure and promoting wrestling disciplines across educational institutions.
The project is being implemented as a joint initiative of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation.
