Kazakhstan Claims Three Bronze Medals on Day Two of the Ulaanbaatar Open

The second day of the Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series tournament concluded in Mongolia’s capital, with Kazakhstan’s athletes competing in Greco-Roman and women’s wrestling events.

In the Greco-Roman wrestling competition at 63 kg, Kazakhstan was represented by Erkebulan Ardakov and Doszhan Utepkaliyev. Ardakov advanced to the semifinals, where he was defeated 1–3 by two-time world champion Zholaman Sharshenbekov. However, he bounced back in the bronze medal match, defeating South Korea’s representative 7-4 to secure a place on the podium.

Utepkaliyev, meanwhile, was eliminated in the early rounds of the competition.

In the 130 kg weight category, Olzhas Syrlybay opened his campaign with two dominant victories over opponents from Venezuela and India. He narrowly lost 1–2 to a Mongolian wrestler in the semifinals but responded strongly in the bronze medal bout, earning a decisive victory over an Indian opponent to claim Kazakhstan’s second bronze medal of the day.

In women’s wrestling, Maral Tangirbergenova competed in the 50 kg division. After losing her opening match, she advanced to the repechage round when her opponent reached the final. Tangirbergenova defeated a Mongolian wrestler 10–0 but was later defeated by technical superiority in the bronze medal match against an Indian athlete.

At 57 kg, Nilufar Raimova captured a bronze medal for Kazakhstan. She began the tournament with a 9–6 victory over South Korea’s Yunjin Kwon before falling to a wrestler from North Korea in the semifinals. In the bronze medal match, Raimova secured an early victory over Singapore’s representative to finish third.

Competing in the 72 kg category, Zhamila Bakbergenova started strongly with victories over wrestlers from Russia and Mongolia. She was defeated in the semifinals by a Mongolian opponent and was scheduled to compete for bronze. However, due to an injury sustained during the tournament, medical staff did not clear her to continue, leaving her just short of a medal.

As a result, Kazakhstan concluded the second day of the Ulaanbaatar Open with three bronze medals, won by Yerkebulan Ardakhv, Olzhas Syrlybay, and Nilufar Raimova.
