Nurasyl Amanaly Claims Silver at the Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series Tournament

The first day of competition at the Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series tournament has concluded in Mongolia’s capital city of Ulaanbaatar.

Kazakhstan was represented by two Greco-Roman wrestlers on the opening day of the event.

In the 72 kg weight category, Sultan Assetuly was defeated by Iran’s Saadat Rezaei in his opening bout. However, after the Iranian wrestler advanced to the final, Assetuly earned a chance to compete in the repechage round for a bronze medal. In the bronze medal match, he lost to Kyrgyzstan’s Zhantoro Mirzaliyev and finished the tournament without a medal.

In the 97 kg division, Nurassyl Amanaly secured a silver medal for Team Kazakhstan. On his way to the final, Amanaly recorded two dominant victories, defeating a Mongolian wrestler in the quarterfinals and a South Korean opponent in the semifinals, both by technical superiority.

In the gold medal match, Amanaly faced India’s Nitesh. Despite a strong performance, the Kazakh wrestler fell short in a high-scoring contest, losing 13–9 and earning the silver medal.

The Ulaanbaatar Open Ranking Series tournament will continue through June 7. Kazakhstan’s wrestlers will still compete in women’s wrestling, freestyle wrestling, and the remaining three Greco-Roman weight categories.
