The XIII Summer Gymnasiade of the Republic of Kazakhstan has officially started in Astana. The tournament is organized at the initiative of the National Scientific and Practical Center for Physical Education under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, with the support of the Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation.
The traditional competition, held once every two years, brings together young wrestlers aged 15 to 17. This year's tournament has attracted significant interest, with more than 180 athletes representing over 10 teams from 10 regions of Kazakhstan and cities of republican significance.
These figures demonstrate the growing popularity of wrestling among young people. In addition, the competition provides an excellent opportunity to identify talented athletes and help them further develop their skills and competitive experience.
The project is part of the school wrestling development program initiated by the President of the Kazakhstan Wrestling Federation, Erkin Kadyrgaliuly. The Federation places special emphasis on strengthening wrestling programs in schools and on the systematic organization of competitions at the school, regional, and national levels.
The Federation’s primary goal is to encourage greater participation of children and teenagers in grassroots sports, identify promising wrestlers from an early age, and create pathways for their transition to elite-level competition. These efforts are laying a solid foundation for the future growth and success of wrestling in Kazakhstan.
